ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust (MJH) seeks a strategic leader, experienced grants manager, and persuasive writer to serve as Senior Director of Institutional Giving (Senior Director). The Senior Director will play a pivotal role in securing vital support from foundations, corporations, and government agencies. From transformational educational initiatives to innovative exhibitions to capital projects, the Senior Director will create funding strategies and craft compelling grant proposals needed to advance the mission, vision, and work of MJH.

The Senior Director will co-lead the Development team, directly managing a growing team of institutional giving and government relations professionals. The Senior Director will collaborate with the Senior Director of Major Gifts and the Development team to identify, maintain, and grow relationships with key funders. This position will also oversee all the Museum’s responsibilities as a Cultural Institutions Group (CIG) member and ensure compliance.

Key responsibilities include:

Developing & Implementing Philanthropic Strategy

  • Partner with Senior Director of Major Gifts to co-lead the Development team in setting and creating strategy and achieving the department’s annual fundraising goals, including monitoring overall expense budget, maintaining the donor database, and aiding in preparation of analytical reports to measure fundraising progress.
  • Design and implement creative approaches for building foundation, corporate, government support, including multi-year gifts opportunities for a range of institutional priorities.

Grant Writing & Institutional Stewardship

  • Write and submit effective funding requests, including preparing proposals, budgets, and other supplementary materials, to ensure timely, appropriate, and targeted solicitation.
  • Grow and oversee a portfolio of donors and prospects ensuring effective cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.
  • Ensure all government compliance, including city (CIG), state and federal agencies and
  • Represent the Museum and interact with all levels of funders, grant officers, and government offices, including at special events, which entail some evening and weekend hours.

Organizational Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead and mentor a team to oversee all steps of the granting process from research to reporting, ensuring fundraising goals are met.
  • Serve as staff liaison to the Board’s Development Committee, including preparing materials and presenting at the Committee meetings.
  • Collaborate with departments throughout the Museum to ensure successful crediting and execution of related contractual requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
At a critical moment for the global Jewish community, this is a unique opportunity to inspire philanthropic support for a renown New York institution mobilizing memory to teach the dangers of intolerance and promoting a robust understanding of Jewish heritage. The ideal candidate will bring:

  • A commitment to the mission of the Museum to inspire tolerance through Holocaust
  • A minimum of seven years of grants management and writing experience with a track record of success securing six-figure grants, preferably at a cultural, educational, Jewish, and/or historical
  • A strong understanding of and relationships with foundation, government, and corporate funders in the Jewish, cultural, and educational fields.
  • Exceptional writing skills that reflect intellectual depth, critical thinking, creativity, clarity, and attention to detail.
  • Experience overseeing and monitoring development team budgets, expenses, and
  • Ability to lead and collaborate with a team to effectively steward donors at all
  • Working knowledge of the Cultural Institutions Group (CIG) requirements and procedures is
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects under the pressure of
  • Exceptional ethical standards, perseverance, and an optimistic and positive
  • Proficiency in Altru or other CRM

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: After 90 days, a hybrid schedule is available with two days remote. Willingness to work weekends and evenings as necessary.


EDUCATION
: Bachelor’s degree required.


COMPENSATION:
$115,000-$130,000 commensurate with experience.
