ABOUT ELLUMINATE
Elluminate is creating social change by developing and supporting Jewish women’s leadership in the nonprofit world and building a global network for changemakers – leaders and the philanthropists who support them. Over the past seven years, Elluminate has evolved from a traditional grant-making organization into a vibrant, forward-thinking, feminist powerhouse. Elluminate’s programs include The Collective, a signature cohort-based fellowship program for Jewish women nonprofit CEOs, and programs for donors designed to advance the idea of gender-based philanthropy.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Elluminate is seeking a mission-driven, entrepreneurial, and creative Chief Development Officer (CDO) to create, implement, and execute a comprehensive development strategy. The CDO will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, and growing existing and new institutional and individual donor bases, including substantially expanding major individual donor initiatives, forging private sector partnerships, increasing foundation support, and growing contributed income.

Reporting to and working closely with the CEO, this is an ideal opportunity for an experienced and strategic fundraiser to inspire a culture of philanthropy and grow financial resources to amplify Elluminate’s impact as a catalyst for gender justice and social innovation.

Key responsibilities include:
Development Leadership & Strategy

  • Serve as a member of the executive management team and participate in the development and implementation of organizational strategies, plans, and budgets to achieve Elluminate’s goals.
  • Assess, design, and lead execution of a range of strategies to expand the donor base and increase revenue with an emphasis on significantly expanding individual major giving among women in New York and beyond.
  • Produce regular reports to the Board and CEO on development activities, progress toward fundraising goals, and opportunities for growth.

External Partnerships & Donor Engagement

  • Strategically develop mutually beneficial partnerships and joint ventures with public and private sector entities.
  • Partner with the CEO and marketing consultants, ensuring meaningful and regular communication with key stakeholders and effective brand positioning for potential new donors.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will be a dynamic and highly motivated doer who is equipped and energized to create and achieve ambitious fundraising goals in a start-up environment. The CDO will bring:

  • A track record of success as a frontline fundraiser and experience with varied fundraising models including annual campaigns, major gift programs, events and other partnerships.
  • Experience partnering with Board members on Board development and major gift cultivation.
  • Knowledge of industry trends and best practices for fundraising and events in a dynamic nonprofit environment.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills, including ability to leverage fundraising databases.
  • A results-oriented approach and ability to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including staff across all levels, Board members, key external partners, and volunteers.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with an ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships, both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated passion for and dedication to supporting and elevating tikkun olam, social justice, and Jewish women’s nonprofit leadership.
