In May, MJH opened a new special exhibition entitled Auschwitz. Not long ago. Not far away. This exhibit has brought together over 1000 original objects and photographs from over 20 international institutions, making it the most comprehensive exhibition dedicated to the history and historical significance of Auschwitz and its specific role in the Holocaust.
MJH seeks to uphold the vision of its founders, while continuing to attract new audiences, teach the dangers of intolerance and challenge visitors—including more than 60,000 schoolchildren a year— to let the painful lessons of the past guide them to envision a world worthy of their futures.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
Serving as the lead professional fundraiser, the Vice President of Development will be responsible for strategizing, designing, and executing an ambitious development program with a goal of significantly increasing and diversifying fundraising revenue over the next few years.
Key areas of responsibility:
Work closely with the Board of Trustees and President & CEO to develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy in conjunction with new strategic plan;
Personally identify, cultivate, and solicit major individual and institutional gifts;
Lead and manage Board relations, engagement, fundraising and stewardship activities, staff Board Committees and set agendas;
Oversee and maximize special events, galas and other donor cultivation activities;
Provide day-to-day leadership and management of the development department, and liaise with other departments on key projects;
Inspire a rigorous yet innovative culture for overall fundraising initiatives and strategically grow, recruit, mentor and motivate a strong team; and
Further professionalize and optimize the development department structure to support the ambitious fundraising goals.
ABOUT THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:
Significant senior fundraising and management experience of at least 10 years with demonstrated success in growing and building a team and culture of philanthropy;
A proven track record for fundraising, including in identifying, soliciting and closing major gifts;
Extraordinary board relations, management and governance skills;
Influential communicator, top-notch relationship and partnership builder with exceptional interpersonal skills;
Strategic, determined and authentic with a relentless pursuit of results and excellence;
A strong, capable and transformative leader and manager able to motivate and inspire a team;
Poised and sophisticated with an executive presence and personal style to represent the organization and inspire multiple constituents; and
Familiarity with the New York philanthropic community and beyond, and a commitment to the Museum’s mission, vision and values, including knowledge of Jewish heritage and the Holocaust.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required.
COMPENSATION: Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience.
