ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:
The New York City Police Foundation, Inc. (“Police Foundation”) was established in 1971 by business and civic leaders as an independent, non-profit organization to provide critical resources for innovative New York Police Department (“NYPD”) programs that make New York City a safer place to live, visit and work. The Police Foundation supports programs designed to help the NYPD stay on the cutting edge of rapidly evolving technology, strategies, and training; funding includes seed, transitional and other critical funds that often leverage broader results for the NYPD.
With a budget of more than $10.5 million and a staff of nine, the Police Foundation works closely with the NYPD and the Police Commissioner to implement strategic programs. The Police Foundation encourages and funds NYPD programs in five main areas: Counterterrorism, Community Support, Reward Programs, Scholarships and Professional Development, and Improved Technology.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Director of Development and Events supports the President & CEO to implement and drive all the Police Foundation’s annual fundraising and event activities.
The key priority of this role is to oversee the Annual Gala, which raised $5.5 million in 2019.
Specifically, the Director of Development and Events will:
Support and staff the President & CEO, and work closely with the Executive Director and Trustees to raise funds through the systematic and effective cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors.
Manage, plan, and implement all aspects of the Police Foundation’s Annual Gala, working with senior management and Trustees; including Gala solicitations and hands-on oversight of Gala details and execution including event consultants, donors and attendees, invitation lists, and event committee and honoree, among others.
Oversee and directly participate in solicitation, administration, and publication of the annual Journal for the Gala.
Manage other special events and activities that serve to provide greater visibility to the work of the Police Foundation, raise money, cultivate prospective contributors, and/or recognize current donors.
Manage two professionals and continue to build morale, enthusiasm, and momentum to achieve fundraising goals.
Develop and administer a timely and accurate system for tracking solicitations, requests, and responses with emphasis on follow-up and acknowledgment.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
The Police Foundation seeks an energetic, hands-on, and savvy Director of Development and Events excited by the opportunity to help lead the organization’s philanthropic efforts and events.
A minimum of five to seven years of fundraising experience, with an emphasis on events and individual giving.
Demonstrated ability to strategically plan and implement large-scale donor events and galas to small, personal cultivation dinners
Proven track record of donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship with excellent follow- up and follow-through skills.
Comfortable working with and engaging boards, high-level donors, and prospects.
Highly professional executive presence with the sophistication, independence, integrity, and work ethic to represent the Police Foundation in a variety of situations and communities.
Organized and detail-oriented; a go-getter, able to manage and deliver on multiple priorities.
A team player and manager with a track record of building cooperation among all staff members and fostering team spirit.
Knowledgeable of the New York City philanthropic community essential; knowledge of the NYPD or other law enforcement or first responder agencies a plus.
Passionate about New York City, public safety, law enforcement, and the greater community.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree a plus.
COMPENSATION: Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience.
