AFTAU pursues the advancement of Tel Aviv University (TAU) in the United States; raising money, awareness and influence through international alliances that are vital to the future of this impressive institution.

AFTAU is a national non-profit organization led by newly appointed CEO, Jennifer Gross ( and headquartered in New York City with offices in Chicago, Florida, Los Angeles and Northern California. Over the past five years, AFTAU overall has raised an average of just over $30 million annually with a staff of 22. AFTAU has set organizational goals to raise over $60 million in the upcoming five years and growing the Southern California region’s fundraising dollars, number of donors as well as fundraising staff is a priority.


TAU is Israel’s largest and most comprehensive institution of higher learning. It is home to more than 30,000 students studying in nine faculties and 125 schools and departments in the sciences, humanities and the arts.

AFTAU seeks a dynamic, results-oriented fundraiser to be its Associate Vice President – Southern California (“AVP”). The AVP will identify, research, manage, and implement cultivation and solicitation plans for a portfolio of individual as well as select corporate, and foundation prospects.

The key priorities for the role include:

  • Forge new relationships and steward current donors to increase financial support and build AFTAU’s visibility in the Southern California region;

  • Expand and diversify the AFTAU donor pipeline;

  • Cultivate, nurture and build upon strong local AFTAU board relationships;

  • Manage and ultimately grow a small team in Southern California;

  • Partner closely with the SVP of Development and SVP of the Global Campaign; and

  • Collaborate with National Alumni and Endowment colleagues to identify, engage and solicit prospects.


The AVP will be a sophisticated and innovative fundraiser and team player, with deep knowledge of individual giving best practices and portfolio management. The successful candidate will be excited to lead, build and drive a multi-faceted and progressive fundraising program for the Southern California region.

Key Professional Experiences and Personal Attributes include:

  • A minimum of 7-10 years of senior fundraising experience, with an emphasis on individual giving and board relations;

  • A minimum of 3-5 years managing and mentoring staff;

  • Proven success as a front-line fundraiser executing complex donor strategies and soliciting major gifts;

  • Exceptional communications skills and ability to motivate and inspire new prospects and existing donors;

  • Self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented, with the capacity to independently set goals, manage priorities, and use time and resources effectively;

  • Team orientated and flexible;

  • Fluent in the use of donor management database systems to maximize fundraising results;

  • Knowledgeable about the West Coast Jewish philanthropic community; and

  • A passion for and familiarity with Israel, higher education and commitment topromoting TAU’s mission.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree, preferred.

TRAVEL / OTHER PREFERENCES: Domestic travel plus occasional travel to Israel; must be available for occasional weekend and/or evening events. Applicants must be based in the Los Angeles vicinity.

Compensation: Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience.
