ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

American Friends of Bar-Ilan University (AFBIU) seeks a knowledgeable, entrepreneurial, and results-oriented fundraiser to serve as Associate Director of Development (‘Associate Director’) for the New York/New Jersey region. Reporting to the Regional Director and working closely with other key members of the AFBIU team, the Associate Director will implement a comprehensive annual fundraising program, including developing an annual fundraising strategy and plan, stewarding and soliciting new and existing donors, and planning and executing virtual and in-person development events.

Key responsibilities include:

Fundraising and Strategy

  • Collaborate with Regional Director to design a major gift strategy aimed at increasing the overall dollars raised and expanding the donor base across the region.
  • Grow individual giving by leveraging a range of development techniques and platforms, including in-person solicitations, phone sessions, fundraising events, door openers, worker assignments, and written communications.

Board Stewardship

  • Partner with the CEO and Regional Director in engaging existing Regional Board members.
  • Help identify and cultivate new Regional Board prospects.

Donor Events and Engagement

  • Manage and oversee briefings, speaker engagements, fundraising events, and event committees. 
  • Develop and implement a plan for post-event follow-up, including contacting and meeting with donors.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

The Associate Director will bring 5+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising and/or sales. An understanding of the Jewish philanthropic landscape is a plus. Additionally, the successful candidate will possess:

  • A track record of managing a portfolio of high-net-worth donors and securing 5 and 6-figure gifts.
  • Knowledge of best practices in nonprofit fundraising and emerging trends in the field.
  • Proficiency in using and maintaining donor databases; Raisers Edge preferred.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills; ability to write and speak in clear and compelling ways and to articulate the mission and values of AFBIU.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.

COMPENSATION: Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience.
